Install it by hand.

Phrasery works, and it is in review at the Chrome Web Store and Mozilla Add-ons. Until those come back, installing takes about a minute and a couple of clicks you would not normally make.

What you are getting

  • It is one person’s project, in beta. Expect rough edges, and please tell me when you find one.
  • Your prompts live on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you sign in, and signing in is optional.
  • Export to a file from Settings at any time, so your library is never trapped in here.
  • Installing this way means no automatic updates. New versions come back to this page until the stores take over.

    Unzip the download

    Chrome loads a folder, not a zip. Double-click the file and keep the folder it produces somewhere permanent — Chrome reads it from that location every time it starts, so if you delete it or move it to the bin, Phrasery stops working.

    Open the extensions page

    Paste chrome://extensions into the address bar. It cannot be opened from a link, which is why it is not one here.

    Turn on Developer mode

    The switch is in the top right. It is what makes the next button appear.

    Load unpacked

    Click Load unpacked, then choose the folder you unzipped. Pick the folder itself, not the files inside it.

    Pin it

    Click the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar and pin Phrasery, so the icon stays visible.

Firefox

version 142 or newer

This one does not survive a restart

Firefox refuses add-ons it has not signed, and the only way around that is a temporary install, which is cleared every time Firefox closes. You would have to repeat these steps each session.

Your prompts are not lost when it goes — they stay in the browser and come back when you load it again. But if that sounds like too much, Chrome is the better beta today, and the Firefox listing will fix this properly.

    Check your version

    Firefox menu → Help → About Firefox. Phrasery needs 142 or newer; older versions will refuse to load it.

    Open the debugging page

    Paste about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox into the address bar.

    Load Temporary Add-on

    Click Load Temporary Add-on… and choose the zip you downloaded. If the picker will not accept the zip, unzip it first and choose the manifest.json inside.

    Use it until you close Firefox

    It behaves exactly like the Chrome version. When you next start Firefox it will be gone, and steps 2 and 3 bring it back.

Once it is in

Save something

Select any text on a page, right-click, and choose Save to Phrasery. The toolbar icon flashes a tick.

Put it back

Right-click inside any text box and pick a prompt from the Insert menu. Your folders are the menu.

Sync, if you want

Settings → Sign in. Signed out it never talks to a server; signed in your library follows you between browsers.
