Make this dish significantly cheaper

A recipe you love with an ingredient list that has quietly become expensive.

Longbudgetsubstitutionsshopping
Make the dish below cheaper without turning it into a sad version of itself.

1. List the ingredients by cost, highest first, so we know where the money actually is. Do not fiddle with the cheap things.
2. For the top three costs, give options: a cheaper cut or grade, a different form (frozen, tinned, dried), buying differently (larger pack, different shop, seasonal timing), or using less and compensating.
3. For each swap, state honestly what changes in the result, including what needs longer cooking or more seasoning to make up for it.
4. Name the one ingredient not to economise on, and why it is carrying the dish.
5. Give me the estimated new cost per portion and how much has been saved.

If the dish is already cheap and the savings would be trivial, say so rather than proposing changes not worth making.

Making it yours

  • Paste your own material where the prompt asks for it. Everything above that line is instruction, not content.
  • Delete any rule that does not apply to you. A shorter prompt that fits beats a thorough one that does not.
  • If the answer comes back vague, add a line saying what you do not want. Constraints work better than encouragement.

Adapting a recipe. Scaling, converting units, cutting the cost, the pans, the time, or an ingredient someone cannot eat.
