Consistency check across a long document
A document written over several sittings, or by more than one person.
Check the document below for internal inconsistency. Ignore quality, look only for things that disagree with each other. Check: - Terminology: the same thing called different names, or one name used for two things - Capitalisation and hyphenation of product and feature names - Tense and person: does it shift between "we", "you", "users", "one"? - Formatting: heading levels, list punctuation, bold and italic use, code formatting - Numbers, dates, units and currency formats - Contradictions in content: a claim in one section that a later section undercuts - Cross-references to sections that were renamed or removed Output a table with the location, the variants found, and which one to standardise on. Flag contradictions separately, they matter more. Document:
Making it yours
- Paste your own material where the prompt asks for it. Everything above that line is instruction, not content.
- Delete any rule that does not apply to you. A shorter prompt that fits beats a thorough one that does not.
- If the answer comes back vague, add a line saying what you do not want. Constraints work better than encouragement.
Polish and final checks. Sentence-level style, proofreading, consistency and one last critique before it ships.
