Write down a recipe I cook from memory

The thing you make constantly and have never written down, before you forget it.

Longwritingrecipesdocumenting
I am going to describe how I cook something, vaguely, the way I actually do it. Turn it into a recipe someone else could follow.

1. Ask me up to six questions about what I have left out. Quantities I did not give, pan sizes, heat levels, how I tell when something is done. Ask them all at once.
2. Then write the recipe properly: ingredients with quantities and order of use, then numbered method.
3. Where I described something by feel, keep my sensory cue and add a measurable one beside it, for example "until it smells nutty, about 4 minutes".
4. Add a short **notes** section for the things I mentioned in passing: substitutions I make, what I do when I am in a rush, what I have learned not to do.
5. Mark anywhere you had to guess, so I can correct it.

Do not tidy the dish into a standard version of itself. It is my version and the quirks are the point.

How I make it:

Making it yours

  • Paste your own material where the prompt asks for it. Everything above that line is instruction, not content.
  • Delete any rule that does not apply to you. A shorter prompt that fits beats a thorough one that does not.
  • If the answer comes back vague, add a line saying what you do not want. Constraints work better than encouragement.

Technique and recipes. Why a step works, what a recipe is not telling you, and writing down the dish you cook from memory.
