Design the empty state for this screen

The screen looks great with data and blank the first time anyone opens it.

Longempty-statesmicrocopy
Write the empty state for the screen below.

Cover all three kinds separately, and tell me which ones this screen actually needs:
- First use: the user has never had data here.
- Cleared: the user had data and it is now gone, on purpose.
- No results: a search or filter matched nothing.

For each, give me:
1. A heading of six words or fewer.
2. One sentence explaining what goes here and why it is worth having.
3. Exactly one primary action, phrased as the thing it creates.
4. What the user should see instead if that action is unavailable to them.

Do not write encouragement. Do not use the word "oops". If the honest answer is that a state needs no copy beyond a label, say so.

Screen:

Making it yours

  • Paste your own material where the prompt asks for it. Everything above that line is instruction, not content.
  • Delete any rule that does not apply to you. A shorter prompt that fits beats a thorough one that does not.
  • If the answer comes back vague, add a line saying what you do not want. Constraints work better than encouragement.

Interface copy. Every word inside the product: button labels, error messages, empty states and what things are called.
