Tear down a competitor's product
Understanding a rival properly, beyond "they have more features than us".
Analyse the competitor described below. 1. **Who they are built for**, inferred from their defaults, onboarding and pricing rather than their marketing copy. 2. **The bet they are making**: what they believe about the market that we may not. 3. **What they do genuinely better.** Be concrete and do not soften it. 4. **What they have deliberately chosen not to do**, and what that choice costs them. 5. **Where they are structurally weak**: things they cannot fix without breaking their own model, as opposed to things they simply have not built yet. This distinction matters most. 6. **What we should copy, what we should avoid, and what we should do differently on purpose.** Avoid feature-count comparisons. Mark anything you are inferring rather than observing. Competitor information:
Making it yours
- Paste your own material where the prompt asks for it. Everything above that line is instruction, not content.
- Delete any rule that does not apply to you. A shorter prompt that fits beats a thorough one that does not.
- If the answer comes back vague, add a line saying what you do not want. Constraints work better than encouragement.
Discovery and evidence. Checking the idea before you commit: research, feedback, competitors, risky assumptions, success metrics.
